A Day in Emerald Bay

Likely the most photographed area in Lake Tahoe, and likely not the best photograph!

It was a crazy week and I am task not even to talk about it. The weekend finally came and I just knew that I had to get away. So off to Lake Tahoe for a hike down to Emerald Bay. The forecast was “record high” for the day, although that was only 72 degrees F (not bad considering it was 32 F the night before).

Sure it is still perpetually sunny and in the 80s here in El Dorado Hills, but Lake Tahoe is about a mile higher in elevation. The drive from highway 50 is not particularly fun, but well worth the effort. The view coming into the Tahoe Basin is awesome.

Emerald Bay Waterfall

Water flowing at the peak of the dry season – can’t wait to come back in Spring!

As I had not been here for well over a decade, I simply hiked down to Vikingsholm, shocked to see it in disarray and neglect. Clearly California is broke and the state should transfer this property to private hands.

I instinctively headed north on a hiking path that likely went for miles, but the setting sun prompted me to return to my car. I will save that adventure for another day.

Emerald Bay Rock

 Awesomeness Everywhere!

I tell you this – it is truly remarkable that places like this exist, and truly wondrous that I live so close. I hope to return many times during my stay in California.
