A sunset never gets old from ones own beach!
It’s hard to believe that I haven’t been home since June – not particularly a good way to live, but it is by my choosing. Given my client needs help for a few more months, and I am pleased to take his money, the arrangement compensates for the cost and challenges of maintaining two homes. I simply wish my second home was in a bit more exotic (and warmer) location. Next time for sure.
I arrived in Piney Point last weekend and awoke to a perfect autumn day in the mid-seventies. Up early to see the dentist on Monday for a routine checkup only to have to return on Tuesday to have the last remaining childhood silver filling replaced with a composite. My iPhone 6+ came later that day – it’s awesome (but big). I got my hair cut from the woman who has been cutting my hair for over a decade!
After a house sits unattended for several months (the yard is maintained by a service), the list of things to do can become a bit overwhelming. I tackle one task at a time and they are all pretty routine: a winter tarp for the boat, cleaning the pine needles out of the rain gutters, top to bottom cleaning of the house.
I really came back to switch cars. My little Ford Focus Titanium still has these stupid summer tires which are useless in even a dusting of snow, whereas the all-wheel drive bimmer thinks it’s a jeep headed to Vermont!
A trip to the dealership on Friday did cost me a small fortune, but I was able to negotiate about $700 off of the final bill (nothing is cheap to repair on a nine-year old BMW). I was able to tour DC in a loaner, but the winter storm that brought only rain to Piney Point left DC bitter cold. I came home late and fatigued and opted to spend one more day here before leaving.
So now, Saturday night I’m ending the week with an awesome dinner at the Rudy Duck – a dozen raw oysters with a good ale and flat-bread pizza – perfect!
Then a Netflix movie and early to bed. Tomorrow 6:00 a.m. I begin my two-day journey back to my undisclosed location in the middle of nowhere. A long cold winter lies ahead, but I am now fully ready for it!
