I have been lazy. Next weekend I will begin fabricating a series of 20 carbon/epoxy test panels using a resin infusion process that I set up in my shop. This is the first phase of the materials I plan to use in the Stealth Sprinter Van Conversion.
Although the epoxy resin system I use is UV resistant, the laminate needs to be tested for UV (sunlight) exposure, flame retardancy and scratch resistance. I will be using various clear coats in combination that should enhance each of those properties.
Rather than have the test panels just sit around, I’ll fabricate some simple speaker stands (I happen to need a pair). I am keeping design to an absolute minimal. I’m not sure which hardwood complements the carbon fiber best, but I have six or so to choose from. It should be fun (well no, it will be work).
