Deporte y Paz and Ten Years of Blogging Behind Me

Nothing Like the Warm Smile from a Beautiful Woman to Make Your Day!

The rains have ended in Querétaro. Each day now is sunny and warm, with enough billowy clouds lingering about to provide a dramatic sunset nightly.

The recent week in California brought back my sunny disposition as well. Aside from the annoyance of my assignment here, I have a new calm and sense of direction. I am walking daily and working out again. It feels great!

The most relaxing thing that I can think to do on a Sunday morning is have brunch overlooking Plaza de la Constitucion.  I typically go to Hanks New Orleans Café and Oyster Bar, which is never crowded at that hour. Clearly the locals prefer Chucho el Roto bordering Plaza de Armas, as there is always a lengthy wait for a table. Someday I will give it a try.

Today I arrived before nine a.m. shocked to see large crowds so early. Actually I had missed the big events – a 10K run and bike ride dubbed Deporte y Paz – Sport and Peace. It seemed thousands showed up for the early morning event and I wasn’t even aware of it.

My initial thoughts were that I either should have gotten up much earlier to enjoy this event or slept in to miss it entirely. No matter, as I found parking with ease, I was quite hungry and it was a beautiful morning.

Breakfast began with espresso doble and sopaipillas, followed by fresh melons & cream and then a hardy carne y huevos.  A refreshing mimosa rounded out the meal. It was a welcome change from the standard oatmeal, nuts and berries that I have at home.

Sunday Morning in QuerétaroI’m reminded of Spain or Italy here in Querétaro!

Afterward a walk through the plazas seemed in order – there are five in Centro Historico Querétaro, most connected by the twisting narrow alleyways built upon ancient Otomi Indian trails.

On one, a noisy Vespa weaved through a light crowd toward me. She stops in front of a small dessert shop, catches my camera and gives me a big smile. Morning complete! I head back to mi casa.

Oh yes, even though about seven years of this blog is missing and will be reposted, I started this crazy pursuit tens years ago today: Let x=x (not)

I created this blog for purely selfish reasons – it helps me keep track of where I was when. That gets harder as one gets older. I don’t particularly care if anyone else reads it, but it is there for all whom have nothing better to do!

I do hope to get the missing seven years back up online soon – the years in Japan, Korea and Italy for sure. If all goes well, I’ll likely keep posting for another decade to come.
