While on assignment in LA, there was a time when I would escape to San Diego – once a month, over a period of nine months. More precisely, I would come here to Coronado Island, and check into this hotel.
I’d book the cheapest room, with the only intent to be a paying guest, which allowed me to explore this chaotic structure from top to bottom. It is the second largest wooden structure in the USA, and haunted I am sure, as it has been around since 1888.
I loved this place.
After a sunset walk on the beach, I dined at the seafood eatery, and billed Boeing for the privilege. Back in my room for the night, I swear I sensed ghosts here on every visit.
After reading reviews of late, the “Del” is a grossly over-priced venue with a much overdue renovation. But my time there was glorious (perhaps aided because I did not have to pay for it).
