That somewhat minor scene from the iconic movie The Graduate has lived on and I would only speculate it had something later to do with Frank Zappa composing the song Plastic People which debuted in the same year.
Now there are two words (or phrases) that come to mind as today’s technology (and investment) buzz words: nanotechnology and 3D printing.
Here at Virginia Tech both technologies are alive and well – but I don’t think the marriage has quite taken place.
Well even though I am not directly contributing to either, my neighbors are, and I just planted a seed that the 3D printing labs and the nano labs need to talk.
Given the new dean at VT is a nano guy – that just may happen. I tell ya this – if I could be born today, I’d give up all the great culture that I lived through. Amazing things to come!
3D printing solves a design dilemma that I have had for some time. Many of the composite products that I want to bring to market require hardware that, in the past, could only be machined. Today that problem is solved. This leaves me with no choice: time to execute!
