Being home “free to do what I want, anytime I want” (thanks Tom Petty) would seem to conflict with the routine of a daily habit. But habits and discipline are essential elements of maintaining that freedom. So . . .

My mornings start with a mug of strong black coffee, 15 grams of dark chocolate (70% cocoa) and a sliced banana. I drag myself out of bed to gather these three essentials and then rush back to the warmth & comfort the bed offers until my thermostat kicks in at 7 a.m. to warm up the house.

As the caffeine kicks in, I check email, finances, weather and relevant news until my bathroom warms up. I plan my day the old-fashioned way by writing it down in my Mastery Journal (google it), then using an iPad app to do a 10-minute meditation. I am a lifelong skeptic of meditation, but slowly coming around to its benefits.

I am also a skeptic of fads diets, but adopted my own hybrid to start my day. Less the honey, there is enough scientific evidence of the health benefits of the following. Here’s the combo I mix in 8 oz. of water.

2 tablespoons of Montmorency cherry concentrate
1 tablespoon of organic lemon juice
2 teaspoons raw organic apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon of raw unfiltered honey

As this is an acidic mix, a good water rinse immediately follows to protect the teeth!
