I must wonder why I had to reach retirement age to find the perfect assignment. Perhaps it took all those years of global experience to get there.
Life in the Redwood tree covered hills well above Santa Cruz could not be much better. I can say no more except that my client provides three free daily gourmet meals during the week. The grub is better than most expensive restaurants, and my first discipline learned was portion size (small to medium).
After lunch I walk for an hour through the Redwood forests for views the locals take for granted. Even the drive home is to-die-for, on Pacific Coast Highway. I can’t wait to explore the local cliff-shrouded beaches that attract surfers year-round.
I can’t say I miss Piney Point a bit. Yet it was home for sixteen years.
