My new D7000 and 28-300mm Nikkor

Nikon’s D7000 – the best DSLR ever?

I got a big tax refund this year – odd as I rarely let the government hold my money, even though interest rates are abysmal. So let’s see, should I sock that money away in a savings account paying less than 1.5%, risk it in this newly volatile stock market or buy a really cool new toy?

I finally saw that Amazon had both the really-hard-to-find Nikon D7000 and the new 28-300mm Nikkor lens in stock. So I pounced! The decision was a no-brainer, and the timing was perfect as Amazon is now again sold out.

Now many of the photo pundits say that this D7000 is the greatest digital camera in history. And most say that the 28-300mm lens is really for FX cameras. Oh really?

It is a heavy lens and feels a bit forward-weighted on this compact D7000. It just may be better suited for the larger FX D700. But they also say it is sharper than than my 18-200mm.

Yet that lens is going back to the Nikon Service Center for yet another repair. And my D300 and D300s are in need of a professional sensor cleaning. Perhaps the D3oo’s next stop is eBay?

I have yet to take a single real photo with the D7000.  I can’t wait for the weekend. But I tell you this: I already love this combo.

More to come.
