The reality here today in Monterey County, California is that I can order about anything that I need at a Target or Walmart about a mile from my house. I drive up and they place the order in the trunk of my car. But I am practicing the new normal by staying off the roads, except for a short late-night cruise to keep the car battery charged.
A few nights back, I awoke from a dream where I was comfortably at home and the power went off, and it did not come back on. It’s unlikely here in Marina, as I am nowhere near a fire zone. But that dream prompted me to buy some long-term provisions that only require my camp stove in the backyard. Beans & rice for starters – a combo that provides a complete protein.
I watched Amazon Pantry implode at 2:00 a.m. that night before it disappeared. This is what I managed to find online before it did. Oddly, I never purchase canned fruits as they are packed with sugar. But if my frozen supply runs out, canned fruit on my oatmeal will do.
Finally, magically my monthly wine was delivered – six bottles to last a month. I have a sign outside the front door thanking the Fed-Ex, UPS, USPS and all the gig-drivers.
