I am embarrassed to admit that I have eight personal computers at the house (of which I use three). As of today, I am down to seven. The Sony desktop I sent off for recycling was built like a tank. No wonder they cost $3000 a pop back in the ‘90s!
Two remaining laptops and one desktop need to be analyzed for any data worth keeping, followed by removing/destroying their hard drives.
Fortunately, there appears to be a nationwide recycling effort, but one can only guess once any value is extracted what percent ends up in a landfill.
In the future mankind will not have this problem. Our computer/tablet/smartphone will be a little micro-chip implanted in our skull. Or more likely, whatever the next evolution of a microchip becomes (think nano).
