The Great Platte River

The historic Great Platte River Road brought emigrants from the east to California and Oregon in the mid-1850’s – well before the railroads. The Pony Express passed by here as well.

Now, I-80 and multiple bands of rail pass by here – making it the most significant corridor in the US – at least for moving “stuff.”

The river starts with two branches in the Rockies and joins the Missouri River in St. Louis. Its waters finally make their way down the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico.

Imagine snow from the Rocky Mountains making its way to Cuba! I drive by about every morning – wishing maybe to hop a raft for the journey to warm weather before winter!
