Five of six friends in Japan have emailed me that they are OK – all live in the Nagoya region, far from the focal of disaster. The remaining friend lives a hundred kilometers north of Tokyo, but far inland. Likely he and his family are OK.

Of all the photos and videos that I have seen, the one above haunts me.
