Demolition has begun on a major section of barracks at old Fort Ord. The asbestos-laden old dwellings had been an eyesore to the merchants (Target is across the street) or a visual marker of a past era, depending on one’s point of view. There are hundreds of other abandoned buildings of all sorts scattered about the closed base.

“Existing” construction as well as this demolition apparently are allowed in California at this time. So, the million-dollar homes in my community of Sea Haven continue to sprout up at an impressive rate. One wonders if there will be any new buyers.
